Matthew 2:10-11, “When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.”

Joy has become synonymous with happiness. Happiness is dependent upon the circumstances that we are facing. But Jesus came so that we could have joy no matter what circumstances we find ourselves in. Jesus’ first coming brought with him the joy of heaven. All of heaven rejoiced over the fact that Jesus had come to earth when they shared the good news of great joy with the shepherds in the field. May we celebrate in even greater ways than the angels around the throne of Jesus as we remember what he has given us because of his first Advent.
