Revelations 1:13 | “…and among the lampstands was one like the Son of Man,…”
Why would Jesus be walking among lampstands? When you connect the end of chapter one with what he is seeing here it means so much.
The seven lampstands mentioned in this vision represent the seven churches that Jesus was going to be addressing in chapters two and three. “…the seven lampstands are the seven churches” (Romans 1:20). So what this small part of Revelation 1:13 reminds us of is this: Jesus is among his church, or at least he should be. It’s possible to be busy with religious things and yet not focused on Jesus. Proof of this is found in Jesus’ words to the church in Sardis in Revelation 3:1, “‘I know your works. You have the reputation of being alive, but you are dead.” Could those Christians have been more wrong than they were? They had a reputation among others that they were alive but in reality, according to Jesus’ perspective, they were dead. That is one of the scariest verses in all of the Bible for me. And I want to do whatever it takes on my end to make sure I remain all about Jesus and that I lead and love this community so that we would cause Jesus to stand in ovation because of our love for him and our devotion to him. That’s why I wrote this down as my prayer in my journal after I read Revelation 1:13 this morning:
Jesus – have free reign in the Ignite City community. FREE REIGN! And please help me to keep you at the forefront of my life and of those that you’ve entrusted to me. Lead me and guide me…
Jesus wants to walk among his people. He wants to be among us. How beautiful is this? And isn’t this the whole point of his coming anyway? Jesus came so that we might be with God. So let’s make sure that we learn to abide in him, always remaining focused on Jesus.
Ignite City Church: we will be a gospel-centered community that remains focused on Jesus, no matter what. May we never settle for anything less than loving Jesus.
Love you more than you know, Ignite City Church.
